Po.et review

The goal of the Po.et project is to record metadata, ownership and accredit rightful attribution for digital media assets across the globe.

Using the Bitcoin blockchain, Po.et seeks to create an open platform acting as a continuation of Proof of Existence, where proving data ownership can be achieved without having to reveal actual data by timestamping with validation of the document’s integrity. This, the founders of Po.et believe, will serve as the most organized, globally-verifiable data-bank of digital creative assets.

Akin to how blockchain technology has transformed financial institutions through the creation of immutable and distributed ledgers within this industry, Po.et will revolutionize the publishing industry in the same manner.

Po.et’s platform will greatly simplify three vital areas surrounding digital assets; namely:

• Publishing
• Licensing
• Owner Authentication

Utilizing blockchain functions such as Smart Contracts, this project aims to assist distribution and remove the present entry barriers faced by publishers and those whom create media assets. It is further believed that Po.et will create value and trust between the various parties involved within the digital media sector.

Features

The Po.et platform possesses several unique features which have been divided into two stages.

Stage 1 is the Rosetta Era and this is primarily useful for publishers. The key features include:

• Standardized Metadata Schema
This will serve to enhance (internal) discoverability of the publisher’s timestamped creative assets. The metadata includes original URL, publication, author and other attributes chosen by the publisher.

• Identity Management System
Po.et users create a profile which is secured cryptographically by private keys. This system will provide an accurate log of any edits to the asset. Combined with Proof of Existence, there will be an immutable record of the asset and list of edits which cannot be manipulated.

• Authentication Badge
Po.et issues this badge to every asset registered on the platform. It serves to verify that the work is authentic and authorized.

Stage two, the Gutenberg Era, is designed as a distributed network of publishers, editors and their trusted content creators. The key features here are:

• Licensing System
Assets can be licensed using an automated cryptographic system which reduces the role of third parties. Users can choose between pre-existing licenses or create custom licenses to suit their purpose.

• Payment Channels
Po.et can be a marketplace for quality assets to be traded. Payments can be arranged with custom timing, unique parameters, as well as other terms that may be set out in the licensing agreement.

• Immutable Portfolios
This features allows all content creators to build a profile showcasing all of their assets across all publications. The creator or publisher can use their portfolio to solicit for new projects or sell previously created licensed content.
